Once the New Year hits, people begin thinking about renewing, recharging and starting the year off on the right foot. Whether your New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight, exercise more or get organized, it is important to know how to make a new habit stick. Did you know it takes 30 full days to start a new habit?
- Make a realistic resolution that is achievable. Too many people come up with an unrealistic timeline when they are striving to achieve a goal. Be real with yourself and prepare for success by allowing yourself plenty of time to achieve your objective. If getting organized is your resolution then start with one area of your home. Work on the same area once or twice a week until you are satisfied.
- Once you have a little success in your resolution keep pressing on toward your target. Take a few days off between organizing sessions. Go on a nice walk outside, rain or shine is rewarding on a day off. It may be necessary to just relax a day or two between sessions because organizing can be physically and mentally demanding.
- Continue organizing your home once or twice a week. Once you have an organized space. It is important to replace items to their new home. Make sure you do not wreck your newly organized space because you do not want to take the time to replace the item where it goes. Continue putting everything away where they go consistently for one full month. In one month you will have a new habit. Once your whole home is organized and have consistently replaced items when used, you will have a much more organized home and become a more organized person.
